Discord Emoji Size Limit (256 KB): Dimensions and Animated GIFs
Updated 2026-11-06
The short answer
Discord custom emoji have a 256 KB file size limit, whether static or animated, and it doesn't change with server boosts or Nitro. Upload at 128×128 — Discord displays emoji at about 32 px in chat. Animated emoji must be GIFs.
Emoji vs stickers
Stickers follow different rules. Discord asks for exactly 320×320, a maximum of 512 KB, PNG for static and APNG for animated stickers. A GIF that works as an emoji won't automatically work as a sticker.
