Twitch Emote Size Guide: 112, 56 and 28 px, File Size and Animated GIFs

Updated 2026-11-06

The short answer

Twitch emotes are square and shown at three sizes: 112×112, 56×56 and 28×28. Animated emotes are GIFs with up to 60 frames.

Auto-resize vs manual upload

  • Auto-resize: upload one square file and Twitch makes the smaller sizes. Guides commonly cite a 1 MB limit.
  • Manual upload: you provide all three sizes yourself, each commonly limited to 512 KB.
  • Staying under 512 KB per file keeps you safe for both.

Design for 28 px

Your emote has to read at 28×28 in chat. Use thick outlines, one clear subject and high contrast; leave fine detail out.

Get all three sizes

Our free Twitch emote resizer exports 112, 56 and 28 px versions of any GIF, each under 512 KB and 60 frames. Need an emote first? Use the AI animated emote maker. Twitch updates its rules occasionally, so check its emote guidelines before you upload.
